What Is NMA

Welcome to LMLA Chapter 543!

What is NMA?
The NMA is a professional leadership development organization headquartered in Dayton, Ohio. The Association is a national, not-for-profit organization serving about 20,000 members worldwide.  Members belong to company-based, in-house chapters, or are members of community chapters.  An Individual Membership Program is also available.

NMA's founder, Charles Kettering, became a pioneer in human resource development when he introduced the idea of professional development for first line supervisors in Dayton in 1919. That idea was so significant that it rapidly spread across the nation, and the National Association of Foremen was formed in 1925. In the late '50s, the Association adopted a broader mission to include all levels of management. In today's team environment, we have many chapters that operate as employee organizations open to all employees and others that operate as community organizations open to all professionals within the local community. Consequently, the professional development of individuals, central to the founding of NMA, can now reach all levels of the organization!

Through the chapter-based experience, NMA provides management and leadership development opportunities to help sponsoring organizations discover, develop, and showcase leadership talent.

NMA's customers span the entire United States. Most are from nearly 100 affiliated chapters representing organizations such as healthcare, utilities, manufacturing, communications, government, aerospace, and defense.*

What is LMLA, Chapter 543?
Chapter 543 is one of many Lockheed Martin-sponsored NMA chapters across the country which provide leadership education and development opportunities for employees.

The origins of this chapter date back to 1992, when Gary Kruse, original chapter president, applied to NMA headquarters to start a new chapter for the Lockheed Technical Operations Company (LTOC). From its beginning as the “Association of LTOC Leaders #543,” the chapter has undergone significant changes, as the hosting company merged to become Lockheed Martin, and various revisions were made to the constitution and bylaws throughout the years. From the time of its re-establishment in 2001, the Front Range Chapter #543 of the NMA has expanded to become a successful leadership organization with strong ties in its Lockheed Martin membership base as well as the community at large.

Under the leadership of Jonathan Pearce, who took office in 2004, and Ron Ripp, Jr, 2005 chapter president, the Front Range Chapter progressed significantly, winning awards for both outstanding membership growth and for excellence in organizing chapter activities.

Ken Asbury, president of IS&GS-Civil and NMA member, has played a critical role in promoting NMA within his own organization. In the past several years, he has led seminars on leadership, supported efforts in community outreach and recognized the achievement of the NMA chapter in organizational announcements. His outstanding leadership was recognized by NMA in 2006 when he was given the prestigious honor of being named NMA Executive of the Year.

Thanks to the dedication of the Board of Directors, Chapter 543 won the NMA Outstanding Chapter Award for 2006-2007.
